STONES AND TIME
Excellence Petite Seconde – natural stones and handmade glass
All the outward signs of luxury in a fresh and modern dress. The entire art of the Louis Erard brand, which continues its mission: to make haute horlogerie accessible. Not only in terms of price or exclusivity, but also in design and spirit.
Louis Erard doesn’t just make timepieces – it makes watches with a soul. This new limited edition Excellence with natural stones and handmade glass also carries a touch of philosophy. A small shock of time. A dialogue between eternity and the moment, tradition and the present. What is the contemporary spirit if not the art of living in the present moment? And what better way to express this dynamic of immediacy than a small seconds hand?

The Louis Erard Excellence Petite Seconde comes in three versions – in a limited edition of 3 × 99 pieces – and follows the codes of the 2021 series of regulator dials in precious stones and mineral glass. With the same play of materials and colors: midnight blue aventurine, forest green malachite, morning blue lapis lazuli. Three stones charged with positive energy. Three iconic stones for Louis Erard – the brand’s home in the Franches-Montagnes area, a magical region of the Jurassic ridges where sky, firs and earth are one.
The dials are openworked (partially open). A small seconds hand pierces the flat stone and glass of the opaline dial. The contrast is not just an aesthetic shock – it carries meaning: a meeting of times and materials.
Each dial is unique and bears the traces of millions of years that have shaped the natural stones and mineral glass from which they are made. Gemstone dials recall the long history of traditional watchmaking, of which Louis Erard is a successor.

Their processing is a technical mastery in itself. Cutting stones or glass into discs just fractions of a millimeter thick – with the precision required by watchmaking – is a test of patience and finesse. A sophistication usually reserved for the highest segment of watches.
The small seconds adds tension to the composition and highlights its balance – soft and direct, expressive and restrained. The new 39 mm format also contributes to this. The case has been further refined and all the significant elements are present: metal indexes, fir-shaped hands, crown with logo. There is nothing to add, nothing to take away.
Each watch has a matching, seamless grained calfskin strap, with tone-on-tone attachment points. Dark blue for the Excellence Petite Seconde Aventurine , morning blue for the Excellence Petite Seconde Lapis-Lazuli , forest green for the Excellence Petite Seconde Malachite – and with the typical Louis Erard blue lining. They are complemented by a polished stainless steel pin buckle and functional quick-release spring telescopes that allow for quick strap changes.
